"SCAD Animation Graduation Showcase 2015"

Director, Animator, Layout Artist, Compositing

I was asked to come up with the theme for the SCAD Animation Graduation Showcase for 2015, and to create an animated bumper in four weeks. And so, in collaboration with other SCAD students, the showcase was themed to be a carnival... with a goofy twist. Many thanks to my partners in crime, who their amazing skills to bring the bumper to life: Jake Larsen, Stephen Picher, Rachel Reidland, and Kai Turro.

"ASCEND"

All Aspects Except Sound

Enjoy a short film in which a monster becomes human! This was my final film for 2D Production, a class where we create an animated short no longer than 15 seconds. We came up with the concept, story, character designs, art direction, animation, visual effects and compositing ourselves.

"YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE"

Character Animation, All Layouts, Art Direction

This was a film made for SCAD's Savannijam: a 24-hour animation competition. Teams get no more than 24 hours to plan and produce a finished animated short of any length based on the theme for that year. The theme this year was "You can only have one."

The next thing we knew, ice cream was flying everywhere. (In the film, that is). Done in collaboration with my pals Stephen Picher and Kai Turro!

"NEVERLAND"

All Aspects Except Sound

This was an experimental project composited in After Effects. We were tasked with creating abstract visuals to complement a piece of music. I chose "Neverland," by U-Kiss.

Puppet Animation

"THE CAVE"

All Aspects

This project experimented with 2D hybrid animation—combining traditional animation with puppetting. It was also an exploration in creating a complete composite using painted backgrounds on different levels, a camera move, lighting, and SPFX.

"REXY OPENS A DOOR"

All Aspects

Make a character open a door. Simple enough. Or . . . ?

"MUSHROOM"

All Aspects

A simple squash-and-stretch assignment! We were asked to design and animate a character with no arms, legs, or mouth.

Animatics

"I'M SO HAPPY"

All Aspects Except Sound

For my Screen Design class, our final assignment was to create an animatic using a piece of dialogue (or music). I chose a piece from Tiny Tim! I couldn't smiling after working on this project...

"FOR A HILL OF BEANS"

All Aspects Except Score

This was an assignment for Principles of Screen Design, where we had to tell a story about a robbery. This story was greatly inspired by the old Harry Potter video games I played as a kid, in which beans were very special indeed...

I do not take any credit for the sound except for some of the voicework, which was done by myself and my friends Hailey, Veeraya, and Lime.

"BUBBLE TROUBLE"

All Aspects Except Sound

Have another animatic! I was tasked with telling the story of an invention that doesn't do what it's designed to do.

A good number of years ago, I designed the mascot for FRC Team 836: The RoboBees: Sting. Ever since then, he's grown into a fully-fledged character, being the protagonist in a series of children's books that make basic science concepts fun for kids. This little story of Sting and his little sister, Abigail, was done as tribute to them.
